I just wanted to feed live beacuse I hate thawing out rats and have no placew rto keep them and I do not like killing the prey myself. Whats the chance that my snake will be hurt? Also will it change his attitude twords me?> And Will it be hard going from mice to rat or rat to rabbit when feeding live?
thanks for all the help

if you don't like dealing with rodents you have the wrong kind of pet.

his attidude won't change for you. The chances will depend on how vigilant you are, however even if you monitor the feedings extremely carefuly a rat could do damage before you stop it.

THose are scars from a rat attack my blood recieved before i got her.

Also feeding live will make it harder for your snake to switch from mice to rats. there will be no need to switch to rabbits.

If you've read that thread, then you know all the dangers associated with feeding live. I think feeding live is perfectly acceptable if you find it more convenient and take necessary precautions. You should stay in the room with the snake until the rodent is dead, and have tongs or hemostats ready to intervene if something happens. Just understand that risks are involved, and there are ways to prevent them.

People smoke, don't wear their seatbelts, and do lots of other stupid things to endanger their lives. You can't protect everyone from everything. As long as you are making an informed decision, and go about feeding whatever you decide appropriately, then whatever you decide is fine.

However, you might want to try Frozen just for an experiment. You just might find it more convenient than you think!

Seeing if the person you buy it from will kill them for you. I personally feed fresh killed to all my snakes. It's messy and takes a little while but the guy I buy my rodents from will put them in a chinese food container, the ones that are meant for soup. They suffocate VERY quickly and are dead by the time I drive home. This works well if you are going to feed right away and I have him do this as long as I am not planning to feed the next day or what have you. It's easy, you just dump them into the cages and the snakes eat them at their leisure. Good luck, Eric-

Ok well I just fed him again today./.....I stunned the mouse then he took it right away...next feeding I will completly kill it...then soon enough he will take it by me dropping it in the tank...thats how I get snakes on p/k. Anyway thanks for all the help
Mike

ps: one thing that sux...dont mean to start trouble by this but it is sooo awesome watching them in action

Just jiggle the mouse on the end of tongs or hemostats... you get the same action, and you get to jump when they hit the mouse too!!! Its even better than live, because you're part of the action instead of just a spectator.

Yeah it's always fun when they really nail it off the tongs..... you get a little jolt too. Makes me jump a little sometimes if I'm not expecting it. Feeding live just makes me nervous... wondering where those sharp little rodent teeth ended up. -chris-
