new cage idea... new critique

TBH Aug 29, 2005 04:53 AM

thanks for your help with the questions bellow, i researched the cost for my other cage designs a little, that was in no way cheap, so i have drawn up a second cage idea. please tell me what you think of it and what you think of sliding glass doors (hence the dotted line in the center) or anything else about it. do you think it is big enough to house my rudi for at least a few years? did i leave enough room for dirt? if you are familiar with cage building, how much do you think it would cost to build it? (the drain thing at the botom is because i wanna install a small "pond", at least in the future, and be able to drain it easily)
i was also toying with an idea from an earlyer thread about just screwing two rubbermaid tubs together and making a door, would you think i could get tubs big enough at target/kmart/pic n save or some place like that?

sorry it is not really proportional, but here's the plans; i really like it if it doesn't turn out too expensive:

sorry to post this, it probably won't be that amazing for you, but i am pleasantly surprised. the cage i have him in right now is next to my computer, his basking spot the closest. he went over to the corner of the cage and is pressing the side of his face against the glass and his eye just keeps turning from me, to my hands, to the computer screen. kinda interesting cuz it at least seems like he is smart enough to put 2 and 2 together... anyways, guess that's enough pointless info on here, maybe some of you will enjoy it.
might as well ask another question while i'm at it, when would you suggest i can take him to the beach again? not cuz i think he is a dog, just because i know he will like being there better than in a cage.

Hello
I was just wondering, doesn't he take off on you when at the beach. How do you get him there, how do you get him back into your pocesstion?

TBH Aug 29, 2005 08:28 PM

well kinda trial and error like evreything i guess. when i went to pick him up, i took a cat carrier, a lil later i was still hanging out with the guy that sold it to me and while we were looking at some iranian desert monitors he somehow got out of it to his hip... so now i take him in my bird carrier so its basically a small chickenwire cage. i also put a harness on him, it really didn't take too long for him to squeaze out, so i tried just a slipknot at his hip, like on his torso right by his hind legs, i don't even think it bugs him cuz he has not even tried to get out of it or show any discomfort. really, i'm sure i could take him with just the slipknot in my car and he would be fine... unless he releaves himself. i only removed the harness and everything at the beach cuz he really did not have many places to go and i always stayed at a distance were i could grab him... though that is probably stupid so i have not done it since the day i got him and took him to the beach. anyways, in short, cages with small holes so he can't get out and a loophole around his hips.
hope you enjoyed the essay,
