Hypo Nicaraguan Boas

I'm thinking of purchasing a 1.1 of Hypo Nicaraguan Boas. My questions about them would be. How old do they have to be to breed? How long do they get? What size clutch do they have? And as far as investments what's your opinion about them? Any other info. would be great. Thanks, Dale

I don't know how much help this will be but since nobody answered you the last time you posted I'll tell you what I know. I have a small group of Nics. 2.4 I will attempt to breed them this coming year the females will be 4 years old they are a little over 3 ft.(I feed conservatively no power feeding)I've heard they can breed at 3 years but I don't know for sure. From what I've heard clutches are small around 10. as far as investment potential I don't have a crystal ball, Don't mean to sound like a jerk but who realy know's. Nics. are highly varieable (sp?) stay small, have many morphs are easy to keep all things you would expect to keep them popular for a long time. the one negative is their attitude you realy have to work with them to keep them tame. of my 4 females (which I did not work with at all) only 1 is handleable and thats just to me she will bite my helper, my 2 males which are younger and I do work with are both what I consider tame. Here's a PIC. of my hypo Nic at 2 years. hope this helps some.

Hi,
Although I do not own any nics I do keep and breed Sonoran Desert Dwarf Boas, which are not too dissimilar to nics (i.e. they grow to about the same size, litter sizes are the same and there are naturally occuring morphs).
Right, size first. My adult males are 4ft max and females are 4.5ft. The males are lot more slender than the females (or atleast that is what I have found). The adults females are eating medium/large rats every 10 days and the males are on small medium rats. I have bred mine a number of times with litter sizes ranging from 12 to 17. I have heard of a litter of 26 this year. Like the Nics, the sonoran morphs are relatively new to the market, however, the anerythristic line that originates from my group has proven highly sought after and as a result I have ended up trading for quite a few very nice columbian morphs. The Anerys sell for about the same as the anery nics ($800 to $1000) and are in erlatively constant demand. Therefore, due to the relatively new appearance in the market, I would consider hypo nics to be a very worthwhile morph to invest in. Make sure you acquire the most attractive animals you can and if possible, get unrelated. I am breeding my holdback females from 2002 this coming season so I would imagine Nics would be the same. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Regards,
Warren Booth
