Will they mate?

RalphSnakeMan Jul 17, 2003 11:15 PM

I have a male bearded Dragon (Regular Beardie) and I am thinking of purchasing a Blood Red Female to be his tank mate, will they mate if I put them together? Is it a sure thing?

Also My Beardie has never shed since I've had him, only little spots here and there, never a full shed...is this normal?

Sorry if these questions are stupid but I'm a bearded Dragon Newbie...

stressful for the female to live in the same cage as a male that constantly wants to breed. It is best to keep them in separate cages so the female get some peace and quiet.

For an adult dragon it is normal not to shed the whole body at the same time. My adult dragons always shed a spot here and there – never a whole shed at the same time.

Below is a picture of my female when she is about to shed her face.

For some reason some of the text got lost in my previous message...! HERE is the text:

They will most likely mate if they live together. But not ALL dragons do... But it can be very stressful for the female to live in the same cage as a male that constantly wants to breed. It is best to keep them in separate cages so the female get some peace and quiet.

most likely they will mate, and as you stated you are only a newbie, and breeding as a newbie is not a good idea. One mating could make aver 4 clutches, and you would have 16-70 babies who all demand food, UVB, etc etc. Then there is the chance that no one will BUY them, and then you are stuck with them. You need enough room and cages for them also. Think it through before breeding beardies.
