Good News Bad News

Good News: I found my long lost (over 2 months) female albino Emory last night on my patio right where she escaped from her cage.

Bad News: I have discovered in the light of day she has several ticks and now I need to get rid of them.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ticks can be manually removed with tiny tweezers or forceps. Grasp the pest as close to the snake's skin as possible and gently pull out. The goal is to remove the head and mouth parts as well (it's all to easy to pull off the body and leave half the tick still on the snake). Keep an eye on your snake for any lumps or abscesses for the next few weeks (the worst case scenerio if bits of tick are still under the skin). Also check out your snake for other parasites. Mites can be seen around the eyes, vent, and/or floating in the water dish. Internal parasites (from meals and/or mite/tick bites)can be monitored with fecal tests.

Consider yourself lucky that only a few parasites found your critter and not a bird, raccoon or other predator. I'm happy you have him back
