Ball Pythons and Climbing

devotech Aug 29, 2005 10:20 PM

I'm a bit confused. I'm planning on purchasing a ball python and all the supplies needed to keep one however due to so many online sources I am being led astray. I want a snake that will climb some of the time if the resourses are there..logs branches ect. And I've seen a ball do it before but some websites say they are ground dwellers and won't climb and others say they love to climb..what gives?

If given the opertunity they will climb, and the excersize certainly won't hurt. Keep in mind, the closer they can get to the top of their enclosure, the more leverage they'll have to pop said top off .

Baby balls love to climb - adults do to some extent - they are not very graceful and tend to fall alot - many don't enjoy climbing at all - very dependant on the snake - I've found they prefer either very thick logs and steps or wide ledges. All of which will aid in their escape attempts. Tho you'll most likely find that you ball will spend 95% or more time in it's hide. Sorry - they aren't really entertaining.

LOLOL, and that's the very reason my wife can't understand why I keep them.

I guess it depends on their mood.

They will climb but be careful, they aren't the best climbers and a fall can hurt them.
