shinysnakeskin Aug 30, 2005 12:41 AM

hi everyone. i just have a question. i saw this ball python at a pet store where i get my mice and rats from. very healthy animals there. but i saw this snake and i had to hold it. ( im buying him on friday ) but hes different looking. i wish i took a picture. he has a stripe going down his neck that is like a peach/tan color. different. and on his neck he has the patterns of a mojave. you know how a mojaves have like these spots on their necks? well thats what the snakes neck looks like. hes very very beautiful. im not sure if its a male or female yet but im getting him/her anyway. but my question is...
are there hets for mojave? can there be hets?
just wondering thank you very much for reading!

The mojave looking animals are heterozygous for the mojave gene (they have one mojave mutant version of that gene and one normal version of that gene). The homozygous for mojave animals (two copies of the mojave gene) are mostly white. Because the hets and the homozygous animals are different visible morphs mojave is considered co-dominant (or incomplete dominant depending on who you talk to).

So, if the pet store snake isn't a mojave it isn't het for the mojave gene.

okay. but i also forgot to mention... someone brought the snake in the day before i came in to buy some mice. the owner of the store is real nice and gives good info, told me that the guy who brought the snake in is a breeder from around here in North Carolina. maybe ill be able to get the guys info from the store owner so i can ask about this snake. normal ball or not im still buying him cause hes nice looking, and all balls are pretty... but on friday or saturday i will post a pic on here to show you all what he looks like. ill ask a friend if i can borrow his nice camera. lol mine is made back in the 20s...jk. its a crappy camera. well thank you for both or your infos that helps me out alot.
take care
