Couple of Questions

sportygurl3392 Aug 30, 2005 06:22 AM

my first 2 questions will sound weird..but also very valid

1. is there such thing as a fake pregnancy in females? (like if no males are present)

2. do they hibernate o go through that "cold period" like a false hibernation?

my last question is kind of long to answer but i wood really like the feedback

3. what kind of colours and morphs do the cresties come in?

thanx ahead of time

sportygurl,

#1 was debated here about 4 weeks ago. here's a link to the thread from which you can follow the responses:

#2 they don't hibernate but should go through a 'cooling' period during which males and females are often seperated.

#3 there's too many to list here. for a better idea of what's out there, i would suggest checking out some breeder sites, the classifieds here, and maybe purchasing the Rhac book by Allen Repashy.

#1 - I missed the debate.
#2 - You don't have to cool them but you should seperate give the females a break for a while, i seperated them for about two months, after two clutches. So the female should lay two clutches and be seperated, and a side not to #1 when you seperate a female after the second clutch keep the food flowing because alot of my females retained the sperm from breeding (Surprise!) and if they are with two different males for the two clutches you won't know who's sperm is producing what eggs after the first clutch. This is from my experience anyway.
#3 - Everyone is right, check out acreptiles.com or another site. You are better off not getting into a morph debate on these forums you'll get torn apart if you are wrong about what morph you think you have, trust me I been there. If you are planning on selling and breeding you should get to know the basic morph color/patterns like the harlequin, fire, dalmation (pepper) and tiger. Pinstripes are nice but expensive for a starter project. Hope this helps! -Joe
