Hey everyone. No doubt you've seen me piss and moan and be all upset about two of my 7 remaining hatchlings escaping through unknown means... (first seven of the 14 that have eaten are already sold, still trying to get the remaining 7 to eat)
Well, the story goes: they escaped in my room on the second story of my house and BOTH (yes both) were found in my basement.
MORAL: snakes like down, dark, damp even at the cost of a little cold cement floor. If you've lost a snake in a house/apartment, check the very bottom level of that structure around the base and under dark objects.
How I did it: The first of two I found by luck, walking down the basement staircase and saw a wiggling tail. The second I had high hopes of finding if I looked and sure enough, saw just his tail as I was peaking behind some counter by my WARM dryer.
Both snakes hatched in June, both were found within about a week or so of escaping. I found one yesterday and one today. The one I found today has eaten a pinky already. The first I think is waiting to shed one more time before eating.
BOTTOM LINE: persistance and a whole, WHOLE lot of luck is necessary to find a MIA, but it is possible.
LESSON LEARNED: Double tank/box/cup/secure hatchling housing.
GOOD LUCK!
