Twitchy Tortoise??? Please Help

fred4444 Jul 18, 2003 12:29 AM

My 3-year-old leopard tortoise has been acting kind of weird. She goes through spells where her legs seem unsteady and when she sits still they twitch a little. It happens maybe once a day, and it seems more noticable on the days I soak her. It's not a constant thing. It goes on for about 15 minutes, and the rest of the day she seems perfectly fine. She is housed indoors, temp range in her enclosure is 75-95, she gets plenty of UVB light, and she is parasite free. The only thing I can think it might be is her diet. I ran out of Bermuda seed and hay this summer, and I've been waiting on a turtlestuff.com order to replace it. Because of that she has been eating mostly dandelion greens. Does anyone know what could be going on here? If you do know, what do I need to do for her?

I would appreciate any and all help. Thanks!

I would have your tort seen by a vet for some blood work.
Twitching is often the sign of MBD from calcium deficiency.
After that is ruled out then you can look at other reasons.
