Thermostat Questions

ladywhipple02 Aug 30, 2005 11:32 AM

So, I'm looking into buying a thermostat. I was looking around, checking out prices, and I came up with a question that I hope you guys can answer. Some of these thermostats only have two or three outlets. I was wondering if it was possible to expand the use of the thermostat by plugging a strip into one of the outlets? Would the thermostat be able to control any heating device plugged into the strip? I was thinking about getting something like this:

http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/reptile-cage-supplies/thermometers-and-thermostats/-/alife-1000-watt-electronic-thermostat-with-probe/

and just plugging a strip into one of the outlets to expand it. I would think as long as I don't go over 1,000 watts I should be fine... but I'm no electrician. Please help me out here folks... don't wanna fry my babies!

Although I don't have more than three things to plug in, seems to me that as long as you dont overload the power max of the thermostat, it should be alright. Let me know if I'm wrong but it seems like a simple concept to me...

That "thermostat" is not what you need. They can and WILL fail, it is just a matter of time.. Take a look at the links at the bottom of the page.. I took one apart and it is really scary that I ever trusted my herps to that thing..
