GTP Enclosure Exo-Terra

jrphd Aug 30, 2005 12:55 PM

Probably not ideal, but what do ppl think about the Exo-Terra enclosures for a GTP? The only glaring problem I can see is that a focused heatlamp would rest directly on that strip of plastic seperating the screens at the top.
Any thoughts?

Haha, was about to post about them myself. The price on them is pretty good, and the sizes are good...small would work for a 1-3 yr old, and the 3rd size would be good for an adult. Only real problem I have is the screened top..you'd have to block off most of it to keep moisture in. Other than that, it may be hard to install perches.

you might want to talk to marcial about installing perch holders on glass. He did it a few years back. If they made an arboreal enclosure (adjustable side venting and a solid acrylic top so you could mount a heat panel) i would definaly consider using them....

you might just want to go acrylic, its about he same price.

I bought the 12x12x18 Exo-Terra ($49) almost two months ago for my 10 month old Jayapura. I cut a piece of Lexan ($5)to cover the front screen on the top. I bought the ESU Reptile dual 9 watt flourescent light ($24) that sits on the back of the top. The cage vents from the front just below the front opening doors. I used the large size fake rubber tree limb for the perches and it fits very snug to the glass sides. I also have a piece of grape vine in there for a more natural look and somthing for him to scratch on for shedding.

Speaking of shedding, He spent the last 8 months in a 10 gallon aquarium with a lexan cover and he still had problems with dry sheds. His last shed after 3 weeks in the new cage was perfect.

I even built a 44 inch tall stand for the cage to sit on. Great for eye level viewing.

Thanks,
David

Hey,

How are you heating the enclosure?

Are you just using the front vents?

They are nifty setups. I'm just a heat panel fan... if i could use a heat panel with them i would consider giving them a shot.

Very nice. Where is your heat source coming from?

it looks cool to me...

as far as the screen top... judging by what i can see in the pictures... it looks to me like the screen top fits in a small lip around the edge and then screwed down or cliped down... of you got a piece of plexi cut to fit exact it would work great...

and as far as the perches go... i have a few acrylic cages and they have V shaped perch holders that are glued to the sides with a specific type of glue... and with all that done it still looks like a nice inexpensive cage...
if anyone gets one please let us know how it turns out...

i have never owned one but i have seen a chondro displayed in one in person.havnt a clue how they hold heat/humidity,but what i do like are the fully opening front doors.makes dealing with a chondro a lot easier than a regular tank.if it were me,id just spend the money on a regular acrylic arborial setup.this way you dont have to worry about altering or customizing it.its all ready to go.besides, something like a MD custom also has the front door that opens.they even come with removable perches, and unlike the exoterra, wich has black molding, the md cages and others are totally clear acrylic.even the hinges are clear.i like this because you can see the entire snake at every angle.
