Besides my interest in herps, I've also had my hand in aquaculture at various points.
I bred feeder guppies for my jewel chichlids, but am no longer working with that project. And well... the guppies are still breeding. And breeding. And breeding.
I have 3 yearling corn snakes and 3 a few months old. The feeder guppies seem just about the appropriate size of something to feed them. I need to do some population control of these fish, but I'd like it to be a little more useful than just dumping them in the toilet.
Could I feed some of these feeder guppies to my snakes on occasion?
I am not looking for a cheap way to avoid feeding rodents. I have a freezer full of frozen mice and intend to only use the guppies as a supplement to the diet.
All of the guppies are long term captives in my care, many of them being second or third generation born in my tank. So I know that they're healthy as well.
Is there any problems I'm overlooking or would using the guppies as a supplment to the diet of my young cornsnakes be fine?
Thank you for your advice.
