Leucistic Hognose

Turtlequest Aug 30, 2005 05:50 PM

Can anyone tell me WHY nobody is producing these beauties! I have never seen anything so amazing in my life! How much do these guys go for? I noticed the pic is from 2002, what happened? I figured they would be in the classifieds now for about 50k or some crazy amount of cash.

Check out this guys other pics, there are about 5 different pics and multiple leucistic hogs.

The story I have heard is that they were confiscated by Fish & Wildlife during some kind of bust/raid. Apparently the guy couldn't prove where he got the adults and so any babies born were considered illegal as well. Whether F&W still have the lucy's or if they destroyed them or released them that I don't know. I haven't heard of any recent information on the whole thing.

Fish and Game is only interested in preserving nature. They could care less about our hobby. I gaurantee every single one of those was frozen.

justinian2120 Aug 31, 2005 11:01 PM

one specific rason f&w would destroy them is to assure their genes don't ultimately reach wild popualations via escaped captives,or intentional released snakes

foxturtle Sep 01, 2005 06:38 PM

but that is a pretty stupid reason to freeze animals. The leucistic gene came from the wild. Weird genes like that are a part of nature, however frequently, or infrequently they are found.

justinian2120 Sep 02, 2005 10:28 AM

stupid?maybe....btw,i don't give the orders for f&w....i just was stating a fact, that if you talk to a dept. fish&wildlife employee, that is one of the reasons they will give you-they don't want captive escapees mixing into wild populations.check it out for yourself.

i think they gave them to a zoo or something like that.

swwit Sep 01, 2005 01:42 PM

I doubt they went to a zoo. People would have seen them. Or it would have been mentioned.

Where did you hear that information? Zoos rarely exhibit freak animals.

leehafley Sep 02, 2005 12:53 PM

Denver zoo CO. poss.!!

kfisher29 Sep 03, 2005 11:55 AM

The guy that got raided here in Colorado caught a normal female in Weld County,Colorado and she gave birth to a leucistic baby and he started a breeding project with them and I guess the hets and leucistics plus all the venomous snakes in the raid got sent to the Denver Zoo,anyways thats what the news said, who knows though. Maybe someone should call the Denver Zoo and see if they can get any info on what happened to them,I might do that just out of curiousity.
