Snow Corn

zugzug31 Aug 30, 2005 06:14 PM

I just bought my first snake today and its a small snow corn. I have a undertank heater and a waterbowl but was wondering if I need anything else. I know for my tarantula I need a humidity gauge, didnt knwo if I would need a thermo or a humidity gauge.

Thanks in advance,
Don

I'm assuming you have some kind of substrate i.e. paper towels, newspaper, ect. Corns love to burrow and aspen bedding works well for that. The water dish should be large enough that your snake can fit its entire body into. I'm also assuming that your undertank heater is on one side of the tank so there is a warm side and a cool side. You'll also need at least 2 hides, one on the warm side and one on the cool side. These can be anything from small empty boxes to deli cups turned upside down with a hole cut for entrance. A humidity cage would be great, but arent required. I'm sure somebody else will had more to this....
I dont want to sound like a jerk, but a little more research prior to buying your snake couldnt hurt.
How big is your snake? Post some pics, I'd love to see him/her! Good luck, and enjoy your new friend!

I do have a hot side with the heat pad and a cool side. The water dish is big enough (for now). I dont have anything for him to hide under but I do have reptibark which I had for my T. I was also told since it is so young not to hold or handle it very often untill it is bigger. Once I can get my pictures loaded on my computer I will post them. Thanks for the help.

The younger your snake is the more often you should old it. If the snake grows up to be a bit nippy, it will be hard to break him of that habit. You should get him used to being held now. If he bites you its not gonna hurt and just let him figure out that he's not able to eat you. I think the whole "Cant teach an old dog new tricks" phrase works for snakes too. Its easier to "tame" them when they're younger. Just remember he's a baby and be very gentile. PEACE.
