Easterns on the mend....

crimsonking Aug 30, 2005 08:33 PM

This nice little girl was clipped by a car in NC last year. She would not eat for weeks until I got her attention with a big ol' 5-lined skink. From then on she has progressed to eating anything I offer. She still shows some signs of nerve damage I think but is doing pretty well.

This girl from SC has had problems from day one with her skin.

You can see here she never has a good complete shed and I have to work the last few pieces off each time. Damp or dry it's the same. If you would have seen this snake 3 months ago you would not have given her a week to live. That's how bad she looked.
Anyway, she too seems to be coming along.
Hopefully my pics will get better with a new camera soon. These were quick shots since I still hate disturbing snakes that are on the mend too much and didn't take any time to "pose".

That was real nice of you to try to help it.

Mark, That specimen in the top picture is beautiful. I love the bands on her. Glad to hear she was saved from death on the road and is doing well in your care.

Very nice animals & great Success story! I had a male corn that was hit in the head & neck by a PU.truck last year. He lost one eye, bled a little and I took him home for possible Kingsnake food, BUT he fought on, survived, ate, and now is a resident at Peter Jolles' place for future breeding and doing great!
When did you come to NC? Coming back anytime soon?

One of the nice things is to get them back in good enough health to live out their lives. And to get them to breed is another plus.

Zee, I sometimes drive up to and/or through Charlotte but I never know just when I will be heading out. I'll definitely look you up next time I do.
That particular snake was found by a friend.

Yeah, next time you come this way, let me know. I can show you a few good spots, including the area where I found that golden corn . . .
