Beardie morphs~!

chameleoncrow Jul 18, 2003 01:58 AM

Greetings forum folks!

I am relatively new to Bearded dragons, and was wondering if you generous folks at the bearded dragon forum could spend your two cents. With all the Hypo x Yellow , Snow x tiger, Sandifre x pastel...so on so forth...man, its really so confusing! I'd just like to know which is currently the most valuable or expensive morphs of pogona viticeps. which is the "Rolls Royce" of the beardie morphs, if you will. From what i have observed, it seems that pure morphs such as blood red seem to be more valuable than the mix. Why do peopel mix breed morphs then? Also, i am not too clear on the sandfire morph(altough i have seen pictures)If it could be explain in words, how are they different from Orange or yellow...or other morphs. thanks to all for your two cents!

I have been in this business for awhile, and from what I can make of it IT IS 95% BLUFF!!! Breeders call their dragons whatever seems right to them....it is very breeder specific. About the sandfire, thats a different story. The sandfire was "invented" be Sandfire Dragon Ranch. Go to their site and they will tell you how their dragons are different and how other people claiming to have sandfires are wronge...hehehe

Don't stress over it...there is no rhyme or reason to it that I can see.

what seems to be the most sought after dragons these days are the reddest dragons or the most orange, everyone is after them and really nice reds go for big bucks. Hope that answers at least part of your question, but in general like said, all those morphs are generally just names that breeders made up for dragons they bred.

I've been in this bus quite awhile now and I hope to shine some light on this issue. A phase name as you would call it is usually a trademark of a breeder. For example a guy earlier was stating about sandfire dragon ranch. And the Snow for example is the trademark of Kevin Dunne of Dragons Den Herp. People mix phases in order to offer things other people dont have, and just like what the other breeders did, hopefully find a genetic trait and make it a trademark. Many phases out there are just people putting names on dragons with certain colors. I wouldnt say that everyone out there saying they have a sandfire is wrong, because many people have bought sandfires from sandfire dragons ranch and bred them through the years. Most people do seek the reds such as the blood, but the most expensive are the leucistics and the hypoxpastel's from dachiu. Most importantly dont let the name of the dragon guide you into making a decision. Question the breeder on the genetics of the parents to give you a better undestanding of what genetics your dragon carries. If you still find yourself having trouble incorporating all these different phase names that are born everyday just ask the breeder the color of the parents and the colors of their parents if they have it. If your planning on breeding its always good to find out clutch sizes of the mother, hatching ratios, and size. Hope this helps!
