Broken teeth during feeding

aerosurfer Aug 30, 2005 10:36 PM

My 5 year old Yellow is a wonder eater Eagerly consuming F/T Large rats, well today after eating 2, I returned her back to her enclosure and noticed a tooth hanging from her lip, I rubbed a finger by her mouth and unfortunately lost it in the substrate, but she didnt seem to mind or flinch. Having never noticed a missing tooth in the past, is this normal and even to be expected from time to time?

Thanks, I have gotten so much gret info off this board, although I rarely post

Nick,
This is completely normal as snakes are continuously replacing teeth. Non-venomous snakes have a higher replacement rate than venomous snakes, and boids have shown to have one of the highest replacement rates of all snakes. Due to the larger, more energetic prey items of boids, this would seem quite logical. Also, it has been shown with boids, that there are at least a few teeth lost with each feeding.
