Our first Iguana Resue....I think?

dragonballs Aug 30, 2005 10:39 PM

I don't really know if you would call her a rescue. The lady owned it for 5 yrs. and took good care of her, but she resently had a baby and was unable to provide enough attention to it, so she gave her up cage and all to us. Very friendly female, and she love to sit on our shoulder. Any advise, i have been reading a ton of care sheets on iguana. But still one question. Heat rock bad for iguana? I know they are bad for alot of reptiles and I don't use or like them. The one in the cage is unplugged.

I more thing she is about 4ft and the cage is 4ft long 4ft high and 2 1/5 ft wide. Is that good for a while. I'm always scared that we are providing not enough space and people always tell me, we have tiny little creatures in massive cages. EX..2 leo's in a 55 gallon tank.

Having her in a cage that small could get you cussed out by people who have "free roamers", but not from me. My female is the same size in the same size cage. It will not be her permanent home, but it does suffice. The reason I use a cage that size is because I take her out when she gets really active. She is in there to sleep and eat and hopefully poop. As long as I have the time she is out. I am in the middle of moving cross country and she isn't out as much, but she doesn't nose rub or try to get my attention unless she is hungry. Hope this helps and she looks great! -Joe

You are right about hot rocks. They can be deadly for iguanas. As for cage size, it depends on how much time your ig spends in it. to feel comfortable, iguanas do need a lot of room. This is a good article on some of the related issues:
