Rapid change in snake behavior - Need Help

jmgtx Aug 30, 2005 10:52 PM

I have a bull snake (3 years old) that has changed from being very passive to extremely aggressive in about a two week period. In the past anyone could handle the snake and it would never strike. Now, it stays in the strike position most of the time and at the slightest hint of noise it strikes out. It acts as if it is unable to see anything. I would like to know if anyone has experienced a change in a snake like this and what may be causing this behavior. I have checked for obstructions over the eyes, but they appear to be normal. The snake will not eat as well. Please help if you can.

Changes in behavior like this are not uncommon. They can be from a variety of reasons. Stress and pain are probably the two most common that are of major concern. I suggest taking your snake to the veterinarian for a complete examination. He/she should give you a good opinion of whether or not your snake is blind and/or what else could be going wrong with it.
