What is the problem with Frilled Dragons?

Flavia Guimaraes Aug 31, 2005 02:12 AM

I recently rescued a baby frilled dragon from a bad petshop and he/she is adorable.Sweet and tame (perhaps only because he is very thin and weak?) and i think he will make a wonderful reptile pet.

But i noticed that there are not too many people that love and raise frilled dragons compared to beardies, geckos, uros, skinks and even iguanas. What is the problem with frillies?

I know this is the wrong forum to say this but...

The one I have had and the ones I have seen don't move much and don't do much. Compared to other reptiles and animals a lot of people thing they are boring.

On the other hand, they can be calm and held.

I like active "lizards" so I take more interest in monitors and water dragons. I am not saying that I will never own one again. They are cool in their own way.

I thought it was the opposite, i thought they were too much energetic thats why people dont like them!

Well i still have the half dead frillie i rescued almost 3 weeks ago.He is 12 inches long and weights only 18 grs!Im doing my best to save him but he didnt want to eat by himself! Im force feeding him melaworms the only insect i have (no insects to be sold where in live, in New Delhi), three a day.Do you think its ok 3 mealworms a day for a 18 grs frillie?

I don't know about a half dead frilly, but mine eats a lot more than I ever expected. He can eat 3 dozen crickets a day sometimes, sometimes more. I wouldnt want yours to explode or anything, but I think you could even squeeze in a few more.

My frilly is easy to handle and is only energetic when feeding. But compared to my bearded dragon, he's a clown. In the states they are much harder to find and tend to be very expensive when you do find them, i think thats what accounts for them not being so common.
