Does butternut squash have to be cooked?

LizardSmoke Aug 31, 2005 10:31 AM

I was just wondering if butternut squash has to be cooked (for health reasons)? Could I just simply feed it to my bearded dragon raw, or is raw butternut squash harmful for beardies?

It won't hurt them to eat it raw, although I do prefer to cook it just a bit.

ok, good to know. Also how do you keep your squash so it stays the freshest after you cut a piece off to feed???

I just keep it in a large tupperware and cut off what I need as I go. I buy one of the smaller squashes I can find and it's gone within the week. I've never had a problem with it going bad. I have 3 dragons that go absolutely nuts for butternut squash, and it really is one of the best staple veggies you can use.
