Het albino markings?

zefdin Aug 31, 2005 12:12 PM

Does anyone know if there are any distinguishing traits present on het for albino Ball Python's that can be used to increase your odds when choosing from a clutch of say 66%ers?

I thought I remember someone writing that the het albino's have more pronounced white lateral markings? Is this the case?

Thanks for any help in advance!

Alan

I have 3 100% het albinos various sources - they all have a more golden color and more speckling/peppering then a "normal" and clear bellies - but normals have these things too and I think it's just a coincidence and has more to do with my choice of animals over their gene make up.

Personally - I think that markers have more to do with the phenotype of the normals than the genotype of the morphs - but that's just a theory.

In my opinion, if there was such a marking, the major breeders would have picked up on it and charged more for the possible heterozygotes with the marking.

IMHO, a dowsing pendulum is the most accurate way to pick out the heterozygotes out of a group of possible heterozygotes.

I tried to put a smiley face in the previous message title, but it didn't come through.

I posted this below too

my answer to you is there is no way to tell a het from a normal, marking or no markings haven't been proven. These are all 100% hets so there are no normals to compare them too. I have a 100% het female I got from camlon and she has more of a canvas texture to her, now is that a marking or just how the snake is. Just too many what if questions.

If you buy poss hets you are rolling the dice which is why they are cheaper because you could have a plan old normal or not.

this is the same issue as the het pied markings.

if you are unsure buy 100% hets or go with the albino and breed them yourself. I myself felt that buying one that could turn out to be normal in the end would cost me more money in time and feeding it than to just buy a 100% het.
