incubating new veiled eggs

justmarried Jul 18, 2003 03:15 AM

hi,
my husband is on job in alaska right now, and had left me to tend to the animals, well when we sprayed for bugs, i moved the two chameleons out together in a pet taxi a month ago. i found her to be gravid, and so i gave her a bucket of sand. she started to lay and bury her eggs early this morning, and was still covering them up when their lights went out tonight, so she is asleep in the sand on the eggs. what do i do now? i know nothing about breeding chameleons, or how to incubate the eggs properly? what do i do?

If your husband will be back soon, I'd leave it there until he gets back, just make sure you store the eggs in at a proper temp. If your going to to it your self heres how.

First get a plastic container capable of holding all the eggs at least an inch away from each other.

Second, fill the container with about 2 inches of vermiculite. Moisten the vermiculite so that its wet enuff, but NOT so wet that when you squeeze it water drips out of it. the idea is to keep the humidity in the container at about 100%.

Third, carefully dig out each egg ensuring that you keep the position of the egg the same. (VERY IMPORTANT) theres an air pocket that the baby needs.

Fourth, place each egg in the container at about 1 inch apart. if mold were to catch one of your eggs the chance of it spreading will be minimized.

place the top on the container and store it in complete darkness. Darkness will minimize mold. I'm not quite sure what the temp range for vields is but im sure someone will post it.

Thats about it. hope this helps.
