Some Concerns

Batista Aug 31, 2005 07:05 PM

We got our first Uro about nine months ago, and Batista has been the best thing ever. He's a very spoiled little guy with more room and dandilions than he can handle. Recently he began his second shed since we've had him and he's been eating like a pig. what concerns me, though, is that recently Batista developed a light spot above his eye on his head. At first I thought it was just part of him changing from tan to yellow, but when I touched the spot, and it was soft. Both "eyebrows" are soft to the touch, which severely worries me because reptiles have such problems with bone disease. We've been using t-rex brand Uro dust vitamins during the week and Miner-all on the weekend, as suggested by Doug Dix.
I wanted to know if I'm just over reacting, or if I should take the little guy to the vet right away. Batista is eating well, a mixture of the right leafy greens, frozen vegetables, dandilion and hybiscus. He's got a 40 gallon tank with three differnet basking rocks of varrying temp up to 120. He usually spends half the day basking and half the day running up the sides of the cage. Batista seems like a fat, healthy uro, but I know that they can hide problems. The softness above his eye makes me very worried and I was wondering if anyone had any advice. thanks in advance!

sounds like all your temps, feeding, etc. are alright although a soft eyebrow seems strange. it wasn't like that when you got him/her right?
i would take her to the vet for a check up just in case.
also, post a pic so we could see what it looks like. maybe someone on here has encountered the same problem...

As requested, here are pictures of Batista. the arrows are pointing to the light spots that developed, but these spots are nothing compared to the fact that the skull under and around those spots is soft like a newborn baby's soft spot.

Here's a full body picture of the little man with much snalt on his nose. Other than this strange softness, he is perfectly hapy and healthy.

Can anyone tell me if they have experienced softness in the skull above the eyes, like the eyebrow? It really worries me. We give him t-rex uromastyx dust during the week and minerall on the weekend in small dustings, like Doug Dix suggested when we baught him. I feel that the softness must be due to a lack of calcuim in his bones. It is about time for his de-worming, which we do every three months becasue he is only a little over a year old. Could the worms be absorbing all of the calcuim suppliment before he gets to absorb it? I'm going ahead with the panacur dose, becasue he needs it anyway. I guess I just want some advice before I take him to the vet and possibally waste $$, just for the vet to say I'm doing all I can.

Thanks

the actual raised part of my uros eyes is not hard and i just took them to the vet last week and she checked them out and said nothing about them needing more calcium. i don't think there is bone there because if you watch them, sometimes they puff out there eyes to help release the salt throught their nose. is the raised part of the eye what you are talking about?

The raised part of his eye is what I was refering to, and I am glad that someone else has felt the same soft spot. I'm always worried about him developing propperly, since he's my first herp.
Thank you so much for your help!
