Can you answer what are the physical characteristics between the two?
Mojaves have more black coloration and generally fade from black along their backs to deep brown to a tan/light brown closer to their bellies.
Lessers go from a darkish amber to an amber/honey to a nice looking honey colored.
And yes while both snakes are really variable you can tell them apart quite easily IMO. Mojaves look more "normal" and lessers more WOW IMO again.
This is just from pictures i've seen, i've never seen a lesser in person but i've seen several mojaves.

I cant help but think lesser platty and mojaves have a very close connection too. No one really knows the source of the platty and how to create it, but the offspring is the lesser platty. The offspring of a lesser to lesser is a blue eyed lucy (super form)... same as the mojave to mojave right? Perhaps the mojave is just a different form of lesser platty. In years to come it will be really interesting to see if RDR's platty is just a fluke or if we are all missing a bit of the pie.
What produced the mojave?
Ben Linville
Hmm, allow me to correct my self... I dont know that mojave to mojave makes the blue eyed lucy, but mojave to lesser does. It is for sure that these genes are close knitt, but we might not know how for many many years. lesser to several things produces blue eyed lucy. Perhaps the platty crossed with several other things genetically cancels out patternt and color. It would be interesting to see what the offspring of lucy to mojave will be. This is a huge genetic puzzle, that may have several answers. The only way to tell is for all of us BP nerds to check RDR records page 2 times a day during laying season... and help him pray to the Ball Python Gods!
and I sticking to it....LOL....
