Strange Behaviour

BrazGirl Sep 01, 2005 02:12 AM

Tonight I was handling one of my growing 8 month juvenile BRBs, the female, and she did the strangest thing. I had her wrapped around my arm and she moved right next to my wrist where the veins are and she started sniffing it. I watched her simply because she was looking gorgeous(nighttime) and she opened her jaw as if she was trying to figure out how to bite into my wrist. I first just decided to move her attention so I let her wrap the end of her tail around my finger, which she then took a minute to smell as well.
Once I took my finger from her grasp, she moved(very slowly mind you) to my wrist again and started opening her mouth again.
Is she lusting after my blood or is she just really hungry? I fed the herd on Monday so they shouldn't be too bloodthirsty like that... She's never actually tried to bite into me without mistaking me for the adult mouse.
Any ideas?

LOL, dunno. And it's not even a full moon.

BTW, sounds like the babies are doing well. I like hearing that!!

Yes, they're doing great. I'm going to get another mouse and see if she will take it - since she seems to want something to eat and it isn't going to be me.
Whole new meaning to bite the hand that feeds.
Good luck with the last two!

Fed the female in question two fuzzy mice and she downed them both. Had a little trouble recognizing the mouse and bit herself twice before the actual mouse. Has anyone had this happen before?
She seems alright when she's moving around.
I've known yearlings to be fed one every two weeks but I've been feeding them adult mice once a week. This already seems to be a good amount but she's very insistant that she's still hungry.
The other BRB, Lucian, is as white as a ghost with shed so I haven't given him any extra mice due to the fact that he hasn't shown the same interest in food.

I'm confused.

Why are you feeding her fuzzy mice? She should be on adult mice or hopper rats. I regularly feed my newborn baby BRB's hopper mice as their first meal.

My yearling BRB's similar to yours are on a once every two week feeding schedule, typically take down one or two adult (but not jumbo) mice at a feeding. Basic rule of thumb, the tummy bulge should be noticeable yet not look overly large. Some skin showing at the bulge is normal but the skin should not look way stretched. The bulge should diminish and go away over two to three days. Still having a noticible full tummy just not all in one spot.

I'm confused because I fed her an adult mouse on Monday and she tried to eat my hand three days later when she had barely just lost her tummy bulge. I fed her two fuzzies the next day so she wouldn't attempt to swallow my pulse the next time I took her out.
Fed her two fuzzies so she wouldn't reject something larger.
I be upping the amount now if she's showing hunger pains only three days after a large adult mouse.
Maybe confused wasn't the word.
Thanks for the help though!
