poison dart frog breeding

PacMan333 Sep 01, 2005 04:45 PM

Hi, I have six different species of poison dart frogs and am trying to breed them. I had them almost a year now with no breeding going on at all. I have coconut shell huts wish dishes inside for laying eggs and a pond in the middle with many plants for cover. I spray twice a day and have a 12 hour photoperiod. They eat dusted fruit flies which I grow. Moss is on the land side and gravel on the little pond side. What can I do to breed my Dendrobates galactonotus, azureus, leucomelas, tinctorius etc.

Most of those species are larger dart frogs and these species can take more than a year to reach sexual maturity.

Typically breeding in these species is to some extent controlled by humidity and if the relative humidity in the enclosure is too low (even with spraying 2xs a day) then reproduction will not occur.

As a final issue, how do you know that you have pair and not all of the same sex?
