Please pardon my photographic attempts! I am just learning and need a macro lense and some filters so I hope to improve. I just received 1.3 South Mountains. My picture does not do the male justice. His tail is orange from top to bottom and his back is speckled with orange dots. He looks good, the females need fattening up so I will be working on them to help them gain weight. Good news is they ate right off from the start! They were acquired via a purchase preceded by a trade for some mali's.

Chuckwalla
1.3 South Mountain
2.1 Banded 5 eggs

Ornate Uromastyx

Thank you you are very kind!

Do you mind if I ask who you got them from? I have sold a ton in the last ten years and was just wondering if they might be related. Since they are eating you should have to problem fattening them up.

I got them from Doug Dix, I am not sure where he obtained them. He did the trade for mali's. He got 1.4 and sold me 1.3 since he only needed an additional female for his group. chucks.

Did he tell you anything about them? Are they wild caught? At first glance I thought they were. I am surprised that he would sell animals that skinny but I am glad they are eating and I hope they do well for you. I still like the redbacks the best but everyone wants redtails. Tom

I believe they were wild caught and did not come to him as was represented. He does not sell animals unless they are top quality but I have purchased a number of animals from him and told him that I would be willing to take them and get them back in shape. Whomever had them did not care for them as they should have. They are all eating and I have been hydrating them every other day to give them a boost. I also like the red backs so if you have some good looking offspring let me know. Thanks

she looks fairly well hydrated and the belly looks full so you are doing a great job. The tail will fill out in time. How are the other 2 females? How long have your banded eggs been in the incubator now? I will not get any redback offspring this year but know of someone who has eggs so if interested let me know. Are you going to sell any of the banded babies? If so do you have exact locality data on them? Are the male and females from the same area? Tom

How do you aquire South Mountain chucks? I thought they were protected from collection?

gahlenfr Sep 02, 2005 09:16 AM

While it is true that the chucks in the South Mountain Park are protected, the poplations outside the Park are not. The are just normal 'ater' and can be collected in non-protected areas with the appropriate license of course. Reptiles in any Preserve or State Park or designated protected area are not legal to capture.
