i think this is pretty much what i am going to go with for his cage, please give me some feedback as to the dimensions i chose (i.e. likelyhood this would be ok for the rest of his life etc.). also, it will likely be all wood except for the sliding glass doors in front.
thanks a lot

Get to it is what I say. Stop thinking about the end all to end all cages. No life time cages no permanent cages.

What you need is a cage. You made a drawing of what looks to be just that. But I am sure your monitor would prefer the real thing over a picture.

My only question about the picture is, the depth of substrate is that 10 inches of substrate or does the 12 inches count towards that too? If so why not just say 22 inches why the seperation?

Good idea on the sliding glass doors they work well. Windows seem to work better then track. My tracks are always getting jammed up with substrate. The window tracks don't seem to.

right now i have him in an 80 gallon, its not great, but its decent. i move back up to davis in a couple weeks, thats like 10 hours away from where i am now in san diego. i plan on building him a cage as soon as i arrive in davis. so this is why i keep posting ideas, i keep thinking about it.
also, by window tracks, do you mean actual windows? like go to ace hardware and ask for a window? (this does sound like a good idea, thanks)
oh and also, he has been eating ground turkey (with calcium) just fine, but when i offer him crickets or mice he shies away... why is that? what should i do? is this a healthy diet for him? until he decides to at least supplement it?
thanks

Yes many of us use windows for the fronts of cages. I also have some that are glass in a slider track IMO those suck. My monitors always seem to figure out how to jam them up on me.

I also have some swing out doors and some lift up or down doors. But they don't work well with all monitors. Especially the ones that sit waiting for you to swing it open and bolt out around you. haha

Monitors by nature are not picky eaters they are opertunistic. So if yours is being picky then it probly means there is something up with husbandry. This could mean the cage itself and care. Or how the food is offered etc..

You can try not offering him the ground turkey then see if he takes the mouse. Be patient and wait it out. Don't starve him but go a few days without the turkey. This has worked in some cases I know of. Yes if offering ground turkey you need to suppliment. Same goes for insects.
