LadyOhh Sep 02, 2005 12:16 AM

I know I seem post happy today, BUT!!!

I got a pair of Balls (Probably itchy too, heheheee) that have mites. What is the best way to get rid of them fast?

1. remove snakes
2. treat snakes with reptile releif (follow directions on bottle)
3. treat cages: throw out bedding and anything that can be replaced. Thouroughly clean and disinfect everything else - get corners groves, etc. well this is where eggs will be laid.
4. when dry replace everything in cage except snake and water - spray with Provent A Mite - let dry
5. replace snake and water
6. repeat again in two weeks or at next cage claning
7. Spray racks and surounding area with PAM or flea bomb your snake room.

If you flea bomb the snake room, remove all reptiles (and other pets or feeder insects) from the apartment or house, unless the snake room has it's own ventilation.

LOL - yer right - I should have mentioned that but thought it was pretty obvious (still learning that the obvious sometimes isn't).

Also if your snakes are out frequently you'll want to bomb the whole house as you probably have mites/eggs everywhere. Even so - if you are seeing black mites then you've probably been spreading them yourself for a few weeks. If you are seeing white mites - then they are fresh hatchlings and are probably contained to the snakes.

Its one of the best, most effective cure yet. It only takes one spray usually and it isnt that harmful to your animals!

My local reptile shop suggests Prozap. Sounds easy enough. Put small piece with snake, use newspaper bedding, soak every other day and in 14 days...all gone!!
