Bowl feeding problem!!!

jack7777766 Jul 18, 2003 08:34 AM

Basically the problem is hes not eating the crix from the bowl and theyve been in there for 2 days.

History:
First time I bought him crix, about a week ago, I just droped them in the tank. He immediately ate the first 3 and then he was hunting down the other 2 but was unable to get them, and I saw them the next day under the towel paper.

I put him and the crix in a small rubermaid so I could clean his cage. Albeit it was early in the day so he was still not in hunting mode but He did not go for them.

So 2 days ago I put the bowl in and 5 crix , gutloaded and dusted. So far he hasnt eaten any and I he craped in the bowl.

Does he not really like crix, or is he not finding them??
If he prefers the CGD I will maintain him on it no prob. Plus Im getting the gargoyle GD this tuesday or so, to give him more protein. But before I stop offering the crix I want to make sure he prefers the diets, and not that he cant find the crix.

Its a small dog crok bowl I had from before, sterilized, and it takes up one third of the cage hard to miss, also Ive seen him on the scereen on top directly over the bowl so Im guessing he sees the crix,

Jack

Just some thoughts, as I don't have a crested gecko yet, though I will soon.

Since this is the first time he has been introduced to crickets, maybe it's because he isn't used to them. You did say he ate 3 though. Maybe he just isn't used to having to hunt his food.

As far as bowl feeding, I would think that he will catch on if you continue to put them in the bowl. He probably just didn't notice them. Or maybe if he did notice them, he may just find it too hard or too much of a waste of energy to hunt them and instead prefers to just lick up babyfood at his leisure.

Maybe you could try positioning a branch across the top of the bowl so he can hang directly over the crix.

Jack,
He might be having a hard time seeing them. Place a branch over the bowl like Tanya suggested. This way when he is on it he can easily peer down and see the crix. Continue to offer the CGD if that’s what you want but keep the bowl in and always leave a crix or two in. This way he has the choice. Best of Luck .

He catually figured it out, ate the last ones last night.
I will use tanya's idea of putting a branch over it, and I will leave the crix in as long as supply last and offer the CGD also.

He is getting the best of both worlds, and has a choice.
What a lucky Gecko LOL
