Wild-collected boa from Pucallpa, Peru.....

RioBravoReptiles Sep 02, 2005 12:55 PM

... and one of his his grand-kids. First, here's the old guy.. a very yellow and unique-looking boa.
.

.
This next photo (taken just now) is of one of his descendents from an '04 litter, now right at 3' in length. The original male is the genetic-source for the pattern anomalies and the unusual color-range.. which just keeps getting better in the line..
.

.
There is no direct line of distinction between the Iquitos and Pucallpa Boa or other locales in Peru.. but there are examples of boas from these different areas (especially Pucallpa) which are somewhat unique and would be much more uncommonly seen in the Iquitos area or perhaps elsewhere.. When we started this project we concentrated on those animals with traits more unique and identifiable as Pucallpa traits, so the line has continued to produce somewhat unique-looking or Pucallpa-looking snakes.

Whether or not you see the value of trying to keep distinct bloodlines of Peru Boa it should be obvious that these boas have traits which are desireable..... These are really spectacular redtails!.. somewhat unique, identifiable, healthy and they breed.... this is all what REALLY COUNTS.

Have fun, Be safe!

I was wondering how many boas do you own? how many different localitys? Black and yellow look so good on a boa, looking good.

This is the line of BCC I want to work with when I make the move to constrictor. I am going to worry about my imperator and amarali first though.

So from your posts here today you have my favorite BCI and BCC!
Man I hope you keep up the work for a LONG TIME!

and it is definately a decision of choice. It is like trying to feel bad about crossing a Aetina Suriname with one from Pokigron. It is desireable traits that we breed for that best reflects " our own personnal perception " of what a local within a local should look like. Their are definite destinctions and as I have made clear before, not everyone is lucky enough to know the exact local or local within a local that their stock may come from. Me and you Gus, have just been fortunate and your Pucallpas, I have know doubt on their local, but as I stated; " The largest majority of the Peruvians that have came in over the last 20yrs have been from Iquitos. " Just like the " so-called " Ecuadorians from three years ago, that were in fact brought out of Iquitos and sold out of Columbia. This is completely meaningless to alot of Herpers, but to guys like myself and I would say also yourself, it means everything. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and always have been. The rich history and traceability of the Counts Pucallpas is what makes me happy and overjoyed to be able to work with again. Their is only three left of the pure non-outbred animals left and I hope to keep them going. Freckles and all. Lovely animals, Gus..........Johnson Herp
