Heating substrate...

pspguy Jul 18, 2003 09:14 AM

Okay, I have just added a new UTH to my tank, and thinned out my calci-sand substrate. How long should it take before I can get an accurate temperature reading from the sand???

Thanks

Jeff

Hey Jeff, well it really depends on the power of the UTH but check in like 2-3 hours to see what it reads...

Well, I've been checking it periodically for the past couple hours or so, and I have a good strong 88 degrees in the sand. I think the new UTH and lessened sand is helping alot. I also picked up a spare piece of nice terra cotte tile from a friend of mine to make a "floor" for their humid hide. So now they have the moss in there with a nice floor to hold in some of the moisture and heat at night. I was wondering however.. this humid hide has me a bit concerned (i.e. How often to wet, is it too hot inside etc..), will the geckos come out if its uncomfortable in there, or will they just be miserable inside?

i just spray mine nce a day you don;t need to pack it full just put a little inthere maybe towards the back and spary it. once a day. they will be fine if they hate it they will move. don't worry. i got one that never goes in her hides at all. she would rather lay on top of them.
