Sorry I missed you guys in Daytona! (LOTS OF PICTURES)

I ended up spending a month in Peru instead! That is one of the most amazing countries in the world.

I started out whitewater rafting down the Apurimac (3rd best river in the world), then went on a hike to the middle of no where in the Andes. Then up to Machu Pichu and finally mountain biking from the Andes down to the jungle. I hoped on a flight to Iquitos, where I went to 4 jungle lodges in the Amazon and also went to a few places around Iquitos.

One thing you will notice is a lack of snake pictures. There are a few, but not enough. A few reasons for this....locals kill any snake they see. Also, I went to the Nauta road two times. The first night I forgot my camera, and we caught a bushmaster, 4ft coral, 2ft coral, a few snakes I don't know their common name LOL, and found numerous DOA (cribos especially). We went out again a second night (with the camera) and got skunked!

I will be adding for stories and the whitewater rafting pics in the next few days (along with pics others took while I was down there).

I hope that you enjoy the pictures (without a ton of snake pics) and that it sheds a little bit of light on this amazing place!

-Kemper

PS: See you at NARBC, and if you are on dial up have fun!

Words cannot describe the beauty of the rain forest and I am sure you enjoyed your trip. It would be educational, if all herpers could go and visit and take temperature readings and other basic research.Congrats!.........Johnson Herp

It changes your prospective on husbandry going down there and gives you a lot more insite. Like you said, words (or pics) can't describe it. Since you brought up temps, that is one of the most amazing things. In Iquitos it is 88 degrees daytime and 72 degrees nightime temps YEAR ROUND. There are 2 seasons, wet and dry. The dry season is may to November.

Do you really need to cool BCC to breed them successfully???

You really dogged me in the Nauta road though. On 3 trips we only found a dead pseudaboa & an old belt snake. I'd have taken the Bushmaster back to the hotel for some pics & released it later, but you know me. Bummer about the Cribos, they're a neat species.

Glad to see you made it to Belem market. Most in our group didn't like it that much but it made me hungry. Some of the soup looked awesome. I still kinda regret not eating some of the goodies there. Oh well, maybe next time.

Great pics & we'll talk soon.

Lee

P.S. My next herp trip: Chasing down B.c.orophias & nebulosus & maybe something new. Then possibly Costa Rica. Then the biggy. The isle of New Guinea. That should be wild.

Thanks for all the emails on Peru, I really apprciated it. It was amazing to go out 2 nights road hunting in a row and get such different results. The first night there was a light rain that passed through though. I don't play with hots too much, but did grab the corals. I figured to leave the bushmaster fairly alone, since you are in middle of no where LOL.

Belen was a really cool place, I wish I got to spend more time there. I will just have to go back!

I am trying to swing a Costa Rica trip for christmas, we will see! Let me know when you go back to Iquitos, I would love to go again!

Take Care,
Kemper

I spent a good 2 1/2 weeks around Cuzco in extremely remote locations. I had different guides, all of which where from Cuzco. The largest snake any of them had seen was 2ft and wasn't described as a boa constrictor. I was really hoping to find some true Ortonii. I would love to find some one day... do you have any more info on where in Peru they are found?
