Vacation is Over... an Open Letter from Michael Moore to George W. Bush
by Michael Moore

Friday, September 2nd, 2005
Dear Mr. Bush:

Any idea where all our helicopters are? It's Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.

Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do like helping with national disasters. How come they weren't there to begin with?

Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn't want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don't like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her!

I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don't let people criticize you for this -- after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike?

And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ!

On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn't stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there done that.

There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to Cleveland.

No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this!

You hang in there, Mr. Bush. Just try to find a few of our Army helicopters and send them there. Pretend the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are near Tikrit.

Yours,

Michael Moore

This letter from Michael Moore clearly shows the lack of intelligence from his part and shows he is nothing more than a bad reporter of piss poor yellow journalism.

My locality specific pine snake's dumps have more substance than what Moore says in this letter.

This was good for a chuckle though....

Just my opinion.

Take care!

Mr. Albury. I like and respect you. I have followed your postings for a while now and I think it's clear you're a good guy.

I am not a Republican or a Democrat,(wish there was another choice) just an independent who tries to think for himself. I'm not terribly into politics and wind up usually voting for the lesser of evils.

The Michael Moore stuff just seems so wine- a- baby to me. I think we need to hold these folks accountable for their slow reactions and apparent ill planning.ESPECIALLT the folks whose jobs are soley to plan for these things and CLEARLY did not do it but the folks on the ground are clearly trying hard and eager to do so. To me, this Michael Moore stuff just seems to fall so short.

Stay well, take good care of those Indigos Bob.

I was presented with a copy of a (2004) article in NATIONAL GEOGRAHIC which describes the effects of a catagory 4 Hurricane hitting New Orleans. Its scary how much Katrina fits the scenereo discribed a year earlier.

The point is that not just Bush, but his predisessors knew what was going to happen and they refused to do anything about it. Instead they played the "we're gambling it won't happen this year" game.

Well...This year they lost.

Not saying Shrub is off the hook for depleting resources for a war instead of taking care of the countries needs.

But as for Mike Moore. I am tired of race being brought up as an issue everytime something goes wrong. The last pic of a bloated dead body I saw in New Oreleans was of a white person. Seems like lots of white folk in those food and evacuation lines too.

Looks to me like he is looking for any scab he can pick to continue his 15 mins.

I hear you frank.

My limited understanding is that as far as resources go we are suppossed to have enough stuff to wage two conflicts and national emergencies at all times.

Your right. this was not unimaginable and there are folks making BIG bucks that should have prepared better.

Bob, etc al...

Moore takes a much More(No pun intended) tongue-in cheek approach than I would. Frankly, even without this latest disaster in New Orleans, in which state, local and FEDERAL(Read govt) authorities not only dropped the ball didnt give a damn., even without this latest horro, we were getting soaked at the pump.

During every holiday weekend it went up.

During every large invasion in Iraq it went up.

Basically, it went up, because it COULD be increased.

Which really has had an impace on the movement and distribution of merchandose, food, water and everything else necessary for life.

No man is an island.....but if he cant afford the gas, he can and will be an isthmus.

It costs over $1.50 for a gallon of CRUDE oil. It's silly to think that gas should be under $3.00 a gallon. I believe the price for the crude oil ends up as around 40% of the total price of a gallon of gas. There are taxes, refinement costs, labor costs, transportation costs, etc.

Also the federal government couldn't do anything in New Orleans. Under American Law it was the local and state jurisdiction unless they asked for help (which they didn't do for several days after the hurricane) so it would have been illegal for Bush to send in help. However dumb American Laws may be it's the law (one that was meant to be broken IMO).

Clearly they all screwed up bigtime and should be held accountable.

As Frank pointed out, he has a year old copy of National Geo (I believe) that pointed out with alarming similarities what would /could happen.

Feirce storms weren't invented yesterday. City buses that could have evacuated many were left in low lying areas and ruined.( Don't worry, We'll buy them new ones....)

Satellite phones are in use by the press and even terrorists in desolate areas of Afganistan. Do you think ANY govt. official local, state or federal there could have made sure that the large hospitals had one? Duh! If it rains we could lose power and communications? Nah!....

Before just blaming the Feds lets not forget about the locals who appeared to be sitting on their butts without REAL plans. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know we need to educate people about responding to certain pre -determined evac sites should the worst occur.

And the stories I see about the folks trying to cross the bridge rather than dieing in the dome, tryingto get to safety on the other side and being driven back by armed cops/soldiers, being determined to be Rioters instead of refugees....Man I'm not blaming the line guys but their bosses who call the shots need to be accountable.

Sorry but I am very angry about the senseless /needless loss of life.

Another case of MM ignoring facts that get in the way of what is is trying to make people believe is the truth. MANY whites were still stuck in attacks of flooded houses in St. bernard Parish DAYS after the hurricanes. Most of the people living in that part of "The Parish" were white, too. Why wasn't it on the news? Smaller populations maybe, or maybe because those VERY poor white people were NOT shooting at rescuers or stealing TVs from stores.

I'm not getting in an argument here - I'm just point out that there were many whites just as staranded SOUTH of New Orleans, too.
