Three way to many for a twenty?

yellowconda12 Sep 02, 2005 07:19 PM

I have a twenty gallon tank, which is the tall variety with the high sides. If I made enough hides and egg laying chambers in it could I house three leos in there, i am currently keeping all three in ten gallons seperately, but I am moving and may not have thew space to have all geckos seperately. If twenty gallons not enough for thre geckos 1 male and two female, then anyone have other ideas for how to make it a little more compunded, amaybe even two ina twenty gallon together? Male and female in same tank if they are breeding, or will male dig out eggs or eat them?

A 20H is kind of the wrong dimensions for multiple leos cause its high and not long, and leos dont climb. The only way i could see that tank working is if you made multiple levels, two or three, with hides and such on each level, this would make the most of the space you have

The other alternative is to buy a 20gallon long tank and house them in that. Although, honestly i would think its a bit crowded to have 3 in a 20 of any size. I wouldnt say its too small, but its borderline. If you are going to buy a tank go with something bigger, a 40breeder is an excellent size, or even a 30 or 40gallon long.

If you are tight on finaces you can always just set up tupperware tanks

I feel a 20 gal "high" is too small even for just 2 Leo's, let alone one of them being a male, unless you at least have a 2nd level. I separate my female from my male after breeding so she can have some peace. I house my female in a 20 gal long, my male is in a 29 gal. Most people agree that you can house 2 Leo's in a 20 gal long. I plan to get another female in the near future but I am leaning toward keeping her in a tank alone or getting another 29 gal to put both females in.

Do you make second levels in your 29gallons? I'm interested in doing this at some point, but im not sure how...

If its not a two level a 29g has the same floor space as a 20long, so they are essentially the same thing for a leo.

I am going to attempt to make a 2nd level in my males 29 gal this weekend. I read how you can make "fake" rocks out of styrofoam & grout. They will be much lighter than the slate I've seen others use. I don't have it all figured out just yet but that is my weekend project
