My first post here.....Adopted Veiled Pics

B3finga Sep 03, 2005 03:06 AM

I walked into my local herp shop yesterday and they gave me this beautiful male Veiled for free. Apparently, he was captive bred and was born with a kink in his back. The herp shop gave him away to a lady when he was only a couple months old. Obviously she did a pretty good job with him, but sadly she had to get rid of her animals, so he ended up here at my house. His kink is pretty bad, but he seems healthy and it doesn't seem to hinder him in any way, so I'm hoping he will be a good breeder. They said he was right about a year old. Enjoy the pics.

Hi Adam

since they are already online you can just put at the end of the location. But as Eve said it is nice when you can just pick from your pics right in your post. I checked them out (copy and pasted) and he looks pretty good - considering all his moves in a short year! Just keep in mind that all this disruption may have him a bit stressed so offer him a quiet secure enclosure with lots of foliage. Have you cared for a chameleon before? Do you have a setup, or did he come with one? If you are new to chams their care can be a bit tricky. Go to link below for lots of links, questions, setup info, etc.

Congrats and look forward to seeing you here!

I have carerd for Chameleons before. I raised a pair of Nose Be Panthers and a pair of Jacksons and had success in breeding both species. About 3 years ago I had to give up all my reptiles because of living arrangemnts. Now I have a house with an extra room just for my reptiles, so Im slowly building my collection back up. This guy is good incentive for me to get on the ball. Right now I have him in a 18"x12"x24" tall screen enclosure, but I'm in the process of building him a larger home, 24"x24"x40" screen. The weather is perfect for him right now here in TN, so I've been keeping his cage on my back deck, halfway in the shade of course, and bringing it inside at night. I mist him about 3-4 times a day and keep a drip cup going all the time. I have some older Powersun bulbs, but I need to pick up a new one for the colder months when he can't go outside. I also need to pick up some nutrients to dust his food with.....ANY RECCOMENDATIONS would be appreciated. He has plenty of vines and fake plants in his cage, but when I put him in his new enclosure he will have a live ficus along with the artificial vines. I think that about covers it. Oh yeah, I'm gutloading his crickets with all kinds of fruits and greens. I hoe these pics work this time.

Peace,

Hi Adam,

good I figured if you hadn't you would probably have asked questions, but you just never know on these forums sometimes!

As for supplemnets many of us use Rep-Cal Phosphorus-free Calcium/D3 (you may not need the D3 if he gets lots of sun) and Rep-Cal Herptivite. Typically CA 1x/week and Vit 1x/month for adults. Look around for pricing as I have found it to REALLY vary on these products. I linked below one company. I have not ordered from them but had them bookmarked. Their prices for these porducts are good and they are having a 5% off labor day sale I know other folks use Miner-al form Sticky Tongue Farms

A few additional gutload related articles can be found at adcham.com and chameleonnews.com (their current issue has a full article on it).

You use the PowerSun mercury vapor bulbs? I tried them when I had Luna and they were always blowing out. ZooMed had a guarantee but I would have to wait for a new one to be shipped and pay for sending the bad one back to them! I switched back to their repti-sun fluorescent.

Keep us posted on his adjusting - did he come with a name?
