weird behavior in my female caimen..

Rene Sep 03, 2005 08:53 AM

I am using a waterland tub and lately she has been splashing water onto the land portion of the tank. Now the last two night she has been burying herself in the sand. When I first seen this I thought she was dead but when I touched her she moved back into the water.. Does anyone else's caimen bury themselfs?

Here are some pictures of her cage and of her burying herself in the sand, I guess the part the worries me the most is the amount of sand she gets in her mouth and eyes?

What are the temperatures like? If the air temperatures are low the sand could possibly be a little warmer due to the basking light. As far as the sand is concerned.....I wouldn't be concerned about it getting in their eyes and mouth as they get things much worse in the wild. The only downfall to sand as Rick (BIGTANK) has discovered and mentioned is the amount of mess in the filter and whatnot it causes.

Hope this helps in some way,

Chris

The room temp is about 86 to 89 depending on the time of day. The sand temp is probably a bit higher due to the heat light but I have never checked the sand them. She seems to be doing fine it just kind of freaked me out to see her head burried in the sand.. lol..

Thanks
Rene
