Calcium and vitamin supplementation

goalielocks Jul 18, 2003 10:13 AM

I was wondering if any of you could suggest a calcium and vitamin plan, I am currently using repcal and herptivite. I keep a dish of calcium in the enclosure which I often see my gecko eating. I was wondering if anyone likes other multivitamin supplements better and how often to dust the mealworms. I also posted a message inquiring if anyone knew the results of tyrosinase tests in the three forms of albino leopard geckos but by the time I posted it it was at the very bottom of the page and I wasn't sure if anyone read it. Andrea told me she knew the testing had been done but was unsure of the results. Thanks for all your help you've given me before and sorry for the long post.

Well, calcium and herptivite are basically the main ones. You can try minerall, but this one has lots of D3 so if you give them also Calcium be sure it is w/out D3. Try not to mix the herptivite and the minerall, try to use one time minerall and one time herptivite...and so on and calcium for them to eat directly in the enclosure.

My new supplement method for half of this season so far is using the Sandfire superfoods gutload formula in my mealworm bowls. That's right, I said gutload formula...lol. It was recommended to me by Allen Rapeshy(the diets formulator). I used to keep my calcium and vit. mix in my mealworms bowls, but I switch to this method and it works great. I was going to use the Sandfire Leopard gecko dust for this, but Allen suggested the gutload since my mealworm dish doubles as a supp. dish. This formulations are almost the same with all the vitamins and minerals plus macro nutrients such as protien, carb, and fat. If you feed mealworms only the way I do, this method takes the guesswork out of supplementing.

I use Miner-all vitamin/mineral supplement in a little dish in my leos' tanks. I also add some to the mealie gutload. If I am feeding by hand, then I don't dust the mealies but if my leos aren't eating by hand, I put 10 mealies in the dish with the supplement and they get dusted that way.
