You go and buy 100 frozen mice from a vendor and one or two of your snakes refuse to eat them.Ive even tried mixing the old with the new to scent them and it doesnt work. It's just mildy frustrating...Paul

Often times your snake doesn't like the taste of the thawed mouse, especially at this time of year. That's why I keep a few live mice. Some of my snakes start thinking about brumation along about this time and aren't very hungry. I tempt them to keep going by offering smaller, live prey. It usually works, but sometimes they just eat less often.

Also, consider the source of your mice. I think some suppliers have better mice than others. I have found one I like and have stuck with him

I haven't had problems with vendor sources causing some snakes to go off feed. However, you can try keeping a small supply of frozen rats that are about the same size as the size of the mice you are using. Sometimes a changeup like that helps stimulate their appetite and/or give them the relief from the boredom of the same type of food all the time. On rare occasions as a treat I even offer birds (makes for stinky stools lol).

From the same vendor (RodentPro) I have had shipments where some of the snakes just wouldn't eat the rodentpro mice. I could go down to the local PetCo and buy their Gourmet Rodent micecicles and they would eat them but not the RodentPro. This can get pretty expensive when you buy several months worth at a time and then have to spend an extra few dollars ever week for the snakes refusing the mice already in the freezer.
This has actually happened a couple of times. One shipment everyone eats fine but a couple of shipments a few just wouldn't eat RodentPro only PetCo...or I say only PetCo because that is the only place around here to get mice.
No more Reptile shops or Mom and Pop pet stores left. All closed.
I also have several that will not eat grey, black or brown mice.
I have started specifying all white when I order.

She's gorgeous. Great grays I bet they'll make fantastic babies.

How big are they getting? Over four ft. yet?

I've had the same luck with Rodentpro mice. I had a trio of adult Black rats that would eat them but none of my Southern Plains rats would touch them. I have been buying from Big Cheese lately and my Southern Plains rats eat them every time. - Toby

That pic is outstanding! What is that coloring called? Is it a rat snake? It's breath taking!
Many thanks, Red Rat
