chameleon eye question

chacoantegu Jul 18, 2003 10:54 AM

my 4 month old female jackson has been eating fine, drinking basking and seems to be showing good colors but i just noticed that her left eye will move to the back of her head and then get really big for a second in the direction of her nose. the big swelling spot that shows up is kind of red. other then that everything is fine what does this mean and is she gonna die? is there a way of stopping this or is it nothing.

i just noticed that she is rubbing her eye on my ficus tree and do you think this has anything to do with the ants that just raided the cage.

It's possible she got bitten or has a small abscess under the eyelid. Hard to say without seeing her. Watch it. If she's still eating, drinking, acting normally I would leave her alone. If it gets larger or affects her eye movement etc. you will need a vet.

Are you talking about that poping out bubble looking thing they do to clean their eyes or something else. They have a third eyelid inside their eye that comes across under their lids to wipe or clean (I suppose) and it makes theit eye look like a bubble for a bit on the inside twoards their nose when they do it. It's kind of hard to describe but is that like what you are talking about? I am not quite sure what you mean by the red that shows.

the color of the big bubble thing is red. i am not too concerned about this anymore because i read on an old post that if they sleep upside down sometimes this happens and then it goes awayin the morning so i think it was just red from too much blood flow to the head.
