My wife was tending to the pond yesterday, and lo and behold, saw a pair of tiny turtle eyes attached to a teeny turtle head pokin out of the water. Our pair finally did it, we were wondering when. We have had the two in a backyard pond for about three years, and have tried to keep it as natural as possible. We use a high-power above ground filtering system with a built-in ultraviolet light. Other than feeding them a huge variety of fruits and veggies and pellets, they are pretty much on their own, with access to our whole back yard, which is closed in with a block wall. She's been hanging out under a raised shed that sits about 20 feet from the pond for the past day or two. The baby must have walked to the water from there. Does anyone know how many more, if any more, we can expect?

Aww, congrats on the baby! Turtles lay huge clutches, I am not sure how many, but it is hard to say how many would have survived to hatch and find the pond. Eggs and hatchlings are often eaten by predators.

Congrats on the new baby. Not sure why mom is under the shed, but she wasnt protecting her eggs/babies. Turtles dont do that. However it is possible that she layed her eggs under there, but i would think it would be too dry. Take a walk threw the yard and look for disturbed ground and babies in the grass, good luck!

Thank you, but now we have a problem. We havent seen the baby today, it's gone. The female is still under the shed, the male looks and acts bewildered. Not sure what is going on.
