Off topic, not a kingsnake..

But was curious if any of my fellow kingsnake posters keep Mexican Milksnakes? I've always kept kingsnakes, but I have to say these Annulata are very hardy, aggressive feeders that don't seem to be nervous like some of the other milks. Another reason I love them is because they are a native US milk, that lives in a large portion of Texas.
Hondurans, Sinaloans, Pueblans, and some of the other Latin American milks tend to be much more popular, but if your a big fan of North American Kings and Milks like I am, these guy are hard to beat.

Thanks. He's an 05, at around 8-9 inchs. And the red thing is part of his guts where I stomped on him. Ok, if your not buying that, it's a little blood/part of a pinky I had just fed him in the deli-cup.

Those are my favorite tricolor too. They remind me of giant scarlet kingsnakes. Plus, they get really heavy bodied too.
And you are correct...they seem to be very calm animals.

Yes, that's one of the reasons I love them. They do remeind you of a scarlet King but get much more heavy bodied.

I got one I collected Jan. 1st of this year 6 days after 8 inches of snow in South Texas. May I mention it was 80F on Jan. 1st.........LOL
I found this one in a pile of firewood in Jim Wells Co., TX.

Not bad for a W/C, eh?

How large is that one? Around 24 inchs? Excellent looking Mexican Milk. Yea Texas weather in the winter can go from one extreme to the other. Just goes to show what hardy these
snakes are.

Sweet I love the fade on the red.

jlassiter Sep 04, 2005 08:27 PM

Thanks Toby.....
These are the most gentle milksnake there is. And with the new amels out there I think their popularity is gonna sky rocket.
There are also tangerines, spotted and pinstriped....Imagine those amelanistic.....
