Cricket Emergency! Need help!!

jgamboa888 Sep 04, 2005 06:45 PM

I must say this was not my fault, im as a responsible cham owner as I can be. But the crickets i ordered that were suppose to come friday all came dead, my current cricket supply is depeleted. I didnt have any time friday or saturday to stop by petsmart because I was down in Miami, so I left my friend some mealworms to feed him while I was gone. Turns out the mealworms grossed him out too much, and when he dropped them in my front yard, he refused to pick any of them up so there goes my mealworm supply. I came back sunday, and I went to petsmart but it closes at 6:00 PM.. just my luck I went there at 6:15. So I literally have no food, and he hasn't eaten since thursday. He's only 6 months and tomorrow is labor day so I can't buy crickets either! Hes been drinking ok, he was a little dehydrated when I came back because he normally recieves his water via syringe while he eats, and drinks very little on his own, but after a long shower his eyes began to come out and he looked alot happier. Anyone in the tampa area who can spot me a couple for tomorrow?

Don't freak out

My suggestions:

put on your porch light tonight and collect some small moths for him. Put them in the fridge to cool them down (like 5 or 10 minutes) before you give them and then place them as close to him as you can, this way he doesn't have to work for them.

If you live where no biocide spraying (pest, weed, etc.) you can collect some grasshoppers or other insect - just make sure they are small enough and a bug you know!

I contacted someone I know in Tampa and if she checks her email over the weekend she may contact you.

Keep him well hydrated. A note about your way of getting water into him - I don't think it is a very good idea to give him water at the same time he is eating. He could easily choke so I would suggest doing it at a different time. I could be wrong, but...

He won't die and even though he might be a bit young to like his veggies, if he is hungry enough he will eat them. Luna's favorites were: butternut squash, strawberries and cherry tomato (cut smaller).

You could post again using "anyone in Tampa?" in the topic.

Ok, that's all I've got!
