Poisioned petco Whites TF update!! (see below post)

riiotgrrl Sep 04, 2005 06:58 PM

Two or three weeks ago i rescued Sifaka, a baby whites tree frog, from almost certain death. The whites and green tree frogs had been sprayed with a CLEARLY Marrked spray bottle full of cleaning solution. When i arrived i was talking with the reptile specialist about the situation. We went to look at the amphibians and i helped him pull out a couple of dead ones.....only to find a badly colored half dead whites. The specialist, who i had worked with previously, let me take the little guy home.
After calling around, i found that no local vets could do much for the frog. I found out from the forums that there was a certain chem that would stimulate the poision gland and flush the poisions out of his system, but no one in my area would do that. So, plan B, i began a rain chamber schedule: 4 hours a day in a small space with constant running water. I also, when i put him back in his enclosure, added activated carbon to the underside of his paper towel. I changed the papers 2x daily, as well as the carbon. I also coated the frog in 'stress coat'. After speaking to some of the vets, i began feeding him a diluted mixture of hills a/d and t-rex tree frog dust every other day.
For a while, i was sure that Sifaka's liver was completely destroyed. He appeared to have an adaema in his abdomen as well.
BUT: last night, Sifaka ate his very first cricket!! He can also walk now...no longer in circles, and he has even began to hop. He has not tried climbing yet, but i have him in a small round enclosure for now. Hopefully his progress continues on an upward slant. I am so proud of a small victory!! Below are before and after photos. What a difference!!

Riotgirl:
Glad to hear that your White's tree frog is recovering from the poisoning. Its coloring looks better, too. Hopefully, it will be on a full road to recovery from now on.

Thanks for the update.
