Built 2nd Level for Tank

Shelley1063 Sep 04, 2005 08:26 PM

I just completed my weekend project of building a 2nd level for my male's 29 gal tank. I thought I would share how I did this and show how it came out as I have seen others ask about doing this. I just used styrofoam, bath tile grout, grout sealer and a hot glue gun to glue the legs on and the foliage. I texturized the pieces using a Dremel type hand tool so that the pieces would look more like rock and not just all flat and square. I am going to add a hide to the 2nd level, I'll probably get that made tonight or tomorrow LOL Well here are some pics:

Deebo is always nosy when I change his tank, he can't wait to check things out LOL

Deebo came down his stairs twice and then decided to try the hard way LOL glad I added the vines cause he just walked right down them:

Ok, I had to add this pic of Deebo peekin out his moist hide I just loved the pic

wow, that looks awesome, i've been considering adding a second lvl to Alyx's tank for a while now.

one question though, Did you use anything to secure the stairs to the tile with hot glue? How well is that working, i've heard that i should use aquarium paste, but hot glue is a bit cheaper, so if that works out well, i'm gunna use that.

Actually no, the stairs are not permanently attached. I formed a lip at the top where it lays on the upper level and at the other end I left the bottom very rough from the grout where it rests on the floor, I use repti-carpet in my tanks and it acts almost like velcro with with bottom of the stairs LOL Plus the wood piece in front of the stairs is wedged against it to help stablize it. I had thought about glueing them on but I knew they would easily break off when I lifted the whole thing out for cleaning. My Leo has been up and down the stairs a bunch of times that I've seen and they haven't moved at all

Very cool! You are so creative...I don't have the time, but I wish all my rack'ified leos could live in such palaces! Nice work.
