3 foot adult carpet python

Purplemonkey Sep 04, 2005 08:41 PM

Yes. I contacted a reptile breeder and asked about how large their advertised adult female Irian Jaya's were. I got a reply. 3 feet.

For carpets...I didn't think "adult" and "3 feet" were supposed to be in the same sentence.

Did I go retarded, or are female carpet pythons supposed to be much bigger than that?

Average size is 4-6'. That's average though, so there are always just natural exceptions.

However, note that malnutrition/maltreatment and insufficient husbandry will stunt growth. I wouldn't consider buying that snake unless you handle it yourself and can observe what state of health it's in firsthand.

I think the 3 foot was pretty general. He apparantly has a lot of irian jaya's that are females and "adults" and are 3 feet long. I mean...it seems that my male IJ is almost 2 feet long and is just a hatchling.

IJs as a rule are smaller than most carpets. That said...my male is over 4', and the female is almost 6 and eats small rabbits. Slightly less than 2 years old for both. I don't expect them to hit coastal size.

3 feet dose seem really small. my male ij is just at 6ft

Hmmm... large numbers of undersized snakes?? That could be the result of extended inbreeding. Say hello to Uncle Dad. That's not to say that they are for sure though.

Someone else might be able to elaborate a little more.

Cheers,
Aaron.

My male MacLott's DID make his daughter pregnant this year. I think it's still legal in my state, though
