Update On The Carrion Fly Survivors - Warning Long Post

The first one to hatch hatched Monday the 29th with no problems. It has not fed yet and is blue now. It is a normal.

The second one to hatch hatched on the 31st. It never really disconnected from the egg, and was attached by the yolksack. It was an amelanistic. I found it dead this morning. The lady who wanted it will be disappointed when I tell her on Tuesday.

The third one is the strangest one yet. It pipped with the amel on Wednesday but the hole it made in the eggshell was only big enough for the first half of its body. After 2 days of watching it drag the egg around with it, I decided to try to help it. I know you never pull them from the egg, and I was afraid to cut the shell to widen it because I didnt want to hurt the snake, so I held the egg for leverage and let the snake do the work. After about a half hour, shortly after midnight on Sept 1, the snake was free. The first few minutes it seemed as though the snake loved being mobile and circled its tiny enclosure a few times before settling down. Now for the wierd part. This hatchling is about 2/3 the length that a hatchling should be, and MUCH bigger around. It is responsive and flicks its tounge at everything and has no trouble getting about. But it wont entwine around fingers and it has no fear of being picked up or held. It moves slowly and delibrerately, like a calm adult and will sit in the palm of your hand and flick its tongue at you. Due to its short length and wide girth and complete lack of fear, could it have a neurological problem? It is blue and hasnt eaten yet either.

Hmm, could have a spinal defect...maybe the vertebrae are all fused? In either case, it will need an x-ray from a vet. I would wait till it feeds a couple times before taking it to a vet..a picture would be nice too.
