Snake Keeping 101

greentreesnake Sep 05, 2005 12:14 AM

Lesson 24: Do not insert fingers into mouth of green tree python while removing substrate from it's mouth and lips.

I was holding a very docile adult male in my lap with head in one hand and qtip in other, he squirmed a little and started to slide off my lap and grabbed a hold on the way down. The worst bite to date from any reptile, and comes close to a couple of bad dog bites in over 30 years of working with them!!

He's a 7 year old adult male, about 700 gms, a very docile jaya type. I was cleaning substrate from him mouth when his tail end slipped, he gagged and chomped on my finger accidentally... he pulled back when he got "snagged" on me....
